To Make the Stone Texture:
1. Select black as the foreground color and a medium gray
as a background color first.
2. In the menu bar, go to FILTER>RENDER>CLOUDS.
3. Add some noise to roughen the texture by selecting FILTER>NOISE>ADD
NOISE.
4. Add depth to your texture by opening
FILTER>TEXTURE>TEXTURIZER.
5. Explore the different texture effects such as burlap,
canvas, brick, and sandstone. To achieve a tombstone look, choose the special
effect of SANDSTONE in the Texture Palette.
6. Analyze how altering the scaling or relief will change
your pictureÕs texture. Determine
how much scaling and relief you would like to apply to your tombstone and click
OK when done.
Insert your Text:
1. Select the Text tool button.
2. Choose a light gray color for the lettering and set
your font to a serif font. The
tutorial uses Times New Roman.
3. Type in your name, birth date, and the quote or words
that describe you. Arrange the
lettering to fit on your background.
4. Add layer styles by double clicking on your Text layer
in the Layers Window. To get your
letters to look carved, check the Bevel and Emboss box.
5. Under Structure, select a Chisel Hard Technique and
alter your depth by utilizing the slide bar.
6. Play with the size until the bevel meets in the middle
and change the direction of the light from Up to Down. When your lettering styles are applied,
click on OK to get back to your work.
7. In order to create that stone texture on your
lettering, change the layer mode found in the pull down tab in the Layers
Palette from Normal to Overlay or Screen.
Create the illusion of depth:
1. Click on your Background layer to make it active.
2. Go to FILTER>RENDER>LIGHTING EFFECTS and adjust
the lighting to shine down from the top left corner and select OK.
3. Add a cast shadow of a tree or other realistic object
that might cast a shadow onto your tombstone. You should select an appropriate photo of your choice.
4. Drag-n-drop or copy-n-paste your tree picture onto
your tombstone picture in a new layer.
5. Take out the color in the picture by altering your
photoÕs saturation to -100 with IMAGE>ADJUST>HUE/SATURATION
6. Transform and adjust your tree picture to cover your
entire tombstone and apply any changes by hitting Return.
7. Be sure your tree layer is still selected, and change
the layer mode to Multiply.
8. To blur your shadow, go to FILTER>BLUR>GAUSSIAN
BLUR and adjust the radius.
